Geraldton Flexible School (GFS) has been operating since 2010, providing a much-needed alternative education option for young people in the Midwest region of Western Australia.
GFS is one of the few educational settings in regional Western Australia specifically designed to support young people who have disengaged from mainstream schooling. Our focus is on creating pathways for students to reconnect with learning in a supportive and inclusive environment.
The philosophy of Geraldton Flexible School draws on the spirit and vision of Edmund Rice Education Australia (EREA) and is grounded in the EREA Charter, which guides our commitment to inclusive community, justice and solidarity, and the holistic development of young people.
As a Curriculum and Re-Engagement in Education (CARE) school, GFS provides young people with the opportunity to re-engage with education through personalised learning, strong relationships, and flexible pathways.
Central to our approach is a framework for negotiating expectations and resolving conflict known as Operation by Principles. These principles — Respect, Honesty, Safe & Legal, and Participation — reflect the social expectations that enable communities to function well. At GFS, both young people and staff use these shared principles to guide learning, build positive relationships, and work through challenges together.
